More About Sports Massage
Although considered an ancient healing art, equine massage has long been shrouded in mystery and skepticism. It has only been in
the past ten years or so that equine massage has been more readily accepted by horse owners nationwide.

Whole Body Sports Massage is relatively new to the
equine scene and differs greatly from more
traditional massage in that it seeks to treat the
CAUSE of muscle dysfunction NOT the symptoms.
What does that mean? It means rather than treat
muscle injuries after they happen, the owner and
therapist work to "get in front of issues" thus greatly
diminishing the likelihood of injury. As well, it
addresses the whole body of the horse, thus allowing
all of the muscles to work together and in unison.
Each discipline offers it own set of muscle issues.
Knowing this and creating a plan to keep your
horse's muscles well conditioned, supple and healthy
should be of key importance to all horse owners.
Do we work on injured horses? Of course we do
however in those circumstances, we usually work in
conjunction with the horse's veterinarian to best
address the issues.
So what happens when we massage your
horse? We compress the muscles against
bone to spread out muscle fibers and
introduce new blood and healthy levels of
oxygen to the muscles. We work in a very
rhythmic way, moving from one set of muscles
to the next until eventually the entire horse
has been touched. When we find an issue, we
work that area in a variety if ways to improve
the circulation, eliminate wastes that have
built up in the body and sooth and relax
tender areas.
As a result, the benefits can be many:
- Relieves tension
- Increases range of motion and suppleness
- Eliminates wastes and toxins
- Enhances extensions and reach
- Improves blood and oxygen levels
thus re-invigorating your horse
- Breaks down adhesions
- Increases the flow of snyovial fluid
for joint health
- Helps with specific problem areas
such as: girthing, cold or sore
back, lameness, hock problems and
much more
- Makes for a happy, healthy, and content
